Tips for creating a daily Scripture practice

Here are some tips for developing a daily practice of engaging with Scripture. These aren't intended to be restrictive in any way, but more of a structure to help this time flourish - similar to how a trellis supports the growth of a new vine.

Set a specific time

Set a specific time each day. At first, this will require a lot of intentionality, but over time your brain & body adjust to make this space the new normal for your life.

Remember why

If we're not careful, we can sometimes forget the main reason we're engaging with Scripture in the first place - to be with Jesus, become like Him and do as He did. Our aim isn't to simply learn the Bible, it's to become a person who gives & receives love like Jesus.

Read in Community

For thousands of years, Scripture has been read, discussed, and understood in community. We want to create a space where we are not only engaging in Scripture alone with the God, but also in community with others.

Choose a plan

Choosing a Bible reading plan can be a great tool to help with creating a consistent Scripture practice in our lives. Check out the free plan above, or browse through thousands available for free on the YouVersion Bible app.

The S.O.A.P. Method

The S.O.A.P. Method of is a helpful way of journaling Scripture to connect with God. 'S' stands for Scripture - write down what you reading today. 'O' stands for Observation. Write down what stood out to you during today's reading. 'A' stands for Application. Write down how you want to apply what you read today. 'P' is for Prayer. Close your time by writing or verbalizing your prayer to God.
